Another Loop De Loop, This Time With Hans and Lisa

Welcome to Arizona, where summer spends the winter — and hell spends the summer. A "locals" aphorism.

Hans and Lisa rolled into our boondock camp at the appointed rendezvous time. We were supposed to meet up Saturday, but seems Mother Nature dropped an atomic snow-bomb on Prescott.

As they donned packs I handed them two trash bags each...the scented ones...and said we might need these if the river's still up.

Not too bad, but most of us were wearing low-tops.

So this is a repeat of the previous hike only with new people...which kinda makes it a new hike.

It turns out, Lisa and Hans love this kind of desert as much as we do. It's a pretty cool common denominator, along with sharing backgrounds of full-time Rving and being outdoor loving hikers. They left San Diego and spent six on-the-road years wandering around in their Fifth Wheel Rv. That was enough, and they are now back to living in sticks and bricks in Prescott and, for the time being, Rv-less.

What can I say. Just another day in paradise in the company of good friends.

Some mighty tall cactus around here

Now go take a hike!

  1. Hell we'd just like to go for a walk with the dog but the river has got us penned down for another day, maybe we will be able to drive out sometime tomorrow.
Mark is that your new S BAR RU......Cool, what's that red stripe along the bottom all about.
Sun is out today and it feels like Spring and now we learned just two hrs ago there is a small land slippage on the hill behind our home fortunately it's more to the West of us so neighbors are all in an uproar over this. However it wasn't but a few minutes later and helicopters from the Sheriff & County showed up circling over head checking it out so the saga of the winter of 2019 continues to grow here in Sonoma Co.
Would love to be hiking with you guys that's for sure, however Golden Retrievers and Cactus are not compatible :)

    1. It will be nice when the Sonoma boys aren't making the National News every night...tho they are predicting more rain is on the way. :(

  2. Thanks for being the best trail guides. That is a hike I could do multiple times. The only thing I would change would be stopping at different rock outposts along the trail and just take it all in. The Tucson desert is so beautiful this time of year.

    1. And in a week or two it will be even more beautiful with a Super bloom!

  3. Love the desert, although it seems very far away at the moment, among the palmetto understory, ancient huge live oaks dripping with spanish moss, and smell of wet organic soils all around us. Except when at the beach, then it is salt and fish, but still not desert clarity. I love variety, as you do I am sure, and am glad I don't have to chose one or the other.

  5. I'm so glad you were willing to do the same hike back to back...it was a beaut! Good seeing you in Tucson; let us know when you are in Prescott, perhaps we'll be able to take you on a hike you've never done there!

  6. Looks like it was a good hike, sorry we missed it, but the Achilles was pretty grumpy last Monday. Sure is a spiffy new Subaru, I do like the red accent stripe!
