Glory to the gods of Treadmills, Anchors and Short Leashes, for they have taken pity on an unrepentant, poorboy-of-a-wanderer. My summer "sentence" at the Skol Fine Art Gallery has been officially commuted, so pardon me while I unleash some well earned exuberance! And what clever irony, that Labor Day will be the finale. To quote Dr King, "Free at last, Free at last, Thank God almighty we are free at last."

A half naked Marathon Man Leonard strikes a meditative "half lotus" pose on Courthouse Mountain. I have no doubt that but for the pointy rocks (thank you Jesus) he would have gone "full monty," forcing your's truly to leap from the cliff. Being so far removed in wilderness might call for some antenna assistance, and I was happy to oblige..."How about now, Leon, feeling anything?"

My curmudgeon (but evolving) pal Boonie took hold of the horns of the Universe and with bare hands (ok, an email) bent two separate, wandering paths to intersection. Well, to be honest, our path wasn't going anywhere for a while so I guess The Boonster had only to nudge one path, and it wasn't all that difficult because it was a path so light and blithe it almost floats like a ballon—impacting Mother Earth with a gentle green kiss on the cheek, as opposed to our carbon footprint's repeated sledge hammer blows to her head. Yes, Glenn, the CEO of "To Simplify" paused in Lovely Ouray, took pal Boonie's advice and looked us up.

Where were we? Oh yes, back in the Subaru, cruising south on County (Back) Road 14, "Moon Roof" wide open to better accommodate the often vertical views and near perfect weather...which is to say, threatening clouds, but at a distance.

I've been remiss, with two blog adventures collecting dust in the "unpublished" basket. So "Red Mountain" goes to press posthaste, pun intended. Just as well, the other two need editorial CPR...in fact, go ahead and call a damn priest for absolution and last rights. Sometimes a script sounds better in-head than on-paper—days when they just lay there with the indolent lack-luster pulse of a disinterested lover. I claim distraction, which begs explanation. But some things are best left unsaid rather than said improperly. Where oh where to clear my bloated head?

It's been a great summer so far, bringing wildflowers, rain, and a revolving front door of old friends and new acquaintances. They came bearing adult beverage gifts of fine wine, mysterious IPA's, and Spotted Cow ales exclusively brewed and sold in Wisconsin. We alternated between firing up the grill, ordering Pizza, and breaking out chips and guacamole. Spirits fueled conversations and exaggerations. As my friend Maikel says, "Never let facts get in the way of a good story!" So, the more we drank the bigger the stories :) It's typical RV fraternity...a Brotherhood of the Road.

Another day, another mountain. They are in our backyard, after all, and to not climb them while we are still physically able would, in my opinion, be disrespectful and shortsighted. A doleful day fast approaches when summits, ridge lines, and blue lakes might be out of reach and out of bounds. Our aim is high, but our goal is simple: cache away memories and photos of these best years of our lives so they may be recalled one by one with smiles, fondness, and yes, even pride, when bones fail and the wick of life grows short.
