We stay out of slot canyons when rain is in the forecast, for obvious reasons. But what about when the Weather Guessers get it wrong, like on the day this family got caught in Little Wild Horse and captured this flash flood Video? Good thing it was a "light rain."
Here's what it looked like in Hellhole during this Flash flood video. In this southwest Utah flash flood video you can see the debris flow that usually precedes the flood. And finally, a Lower Antelope Canyon flash flood video, just to keep you aware and hopefully safe.
That's some awe inspiring scenery...no wonder you all have such big grins!
ReplyDeleteI don't think many people really understand the power of even a little rain. I know I don't. It is hard to believe that even a light rain can gather momentum and cause such devastation. We will be in Zion over the Thanksgiving weekend and are looking forward to hitting the trails!
ReplyDeleteLeft to right...65, 70 and 61. Amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteHoly crap!
ReplyDeleteIncredible, just incredible. The floods, the red canyons, the people.
ReplyDeleteWow! Thanks for sharing. -- Anne P
ReplyDeleteIncredible!!! I travel, hike, etc alone (hermitoid) and am somewhat physically impaired, but I still go, knowing that someday I will be Coyote Lunch, hopefully enjoying such perpetual beuty...and I love Ouray!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have a stomach ache, a symptom of "Red Rock withdrawal." It hurts so bad, I almost can't bare to look...
ReplyDeleteDo you form human ladders to climb those walls?
ReplyDeleteMy kind of hike...lots of major boulder climbing!! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThose videos are frightening!! So was Suzanne able to boost Bobbie up that dry fall? I sure don't remember anything like that when we hiked with you guys in Hell Hole Canyon, but then maybe it was beyond where I got stuck :-)
ReplyDeleteGayle
Actually, we did go up a different spur of the canyon, to the west. :)
