Only in silence can we hear the one true voice that really matters...
That one inner voice...
That speaks Truth...
The voice we can trust to be honest, even when it hurts...
Never a ridicule, mind you, only truth so that we may stand naked before our peers, unafraid; unashamed...
It's the voice that says you can do this...
The voice of calm during tempests and moments of doubt...
It's one voice among many, but you know it when it speaks. It sounds like your long-ago Dad, coaxing you to put your trust in him and jump in the deep end...
It's the voice that knows and understands and cares about the almighty gulf between you and your dreams...
The voice doesn't pull punches. Life is hard: Kids die from cancer, dreams die on the vine...
But the voice is there for you: You can do this...
You got this...
You're all grown up, trust in yourself...
Because life's mountains has taught you that success is built from a million tiny steps, and the sweetest fruits of endeavor are always at the top...
There is no in-between. So you keep climbing, focus on the now rather than the summit...
Because all roads lead to Heaven, but pass through a place called Hell...
Where eye's well with tears, and days seem like years...
Ultimately, you'll look down from the summit of a marred but beautiful life...
Smile and say, I made it, I actually made it...
So rest easy, with assurance...
Keep moving, with endurance...
Laugh off mistakes like water off a duck...
Be humble in success, it could be just dumb luck
Lend a hand to someone in need...
Perhaps an anonymous good deed...
And listen to that inner voice...
The one that speaks truth and sounds just like Dad...
Who accepted you for who you were and who you became...
Imperfect, but giving it your best just the same.

I like the "marred but beautiful life" idea. I say this every year about this time, but that beautiful snow and sunny sky is ALMOST enough to make me want to spend time in those mountains in winter.
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoy seeing the steps you two continue to take. Fresh snow is so beautiful, and I agree with Chris. Those photos almost make me want to spend time there in the winter, too. Almost :-)
ReplyDeletePerfect Christmas tidings from y'all :)
ReplyDeleteThis will be one to read again and again! Merry Christmas!
