On Chronic Remorse For Repeat Offenders.... Absolution verses Penance

“It is the confession, not the priest, that gives absolution...”
"The Picture of Dorian Gray," Oscar Wilde

I dial the iPod playlist to “Oldies,” set the "exorcise" bike to 90 grueling, demon casting minutes, hoping for absolution, settling for penance. Absolution, evidently, is not granted to repeat offenders without a confession.

In spite of last year’s cautionary tale (and the year before, and the year before that, and the year before that...) complete with subsequent resolutions to moderate food and drink next holiday season, it appears that I've instead raised the bar on overindulgence… literally and figuratively. Put your glasses down, for crying out loud... This is a confession, not a toast!

There is a treatment for lack of self-control, it's called Pavlovian Negative Reinforcement Behavioral Modification Therapy. However, it involves jumper cables and high voltage. Oh well, The sum of a person's life/lipid panel is not determined by a single season. It's what you do the rest of the time that matters...
Confession submitted.

Now for a Snow Trek to "Last Dollar."
Happy New Year everyone!!!

We could see the snow-capped La Sals in Utah... doesn't look any warmer over there.

  1. Thank you for all the wonderful pictures, especially for the ones of places over 6000 feet elevation. That high is out of my range these days. Please have a wonderful 2017. As usual I look forward to your reports of all the fun in your life.

  3. Last Dollar Road, just the name gives us goose bumps; seeing the terrain all snow covered was a real treat to boot. Have always wondered if the county keeps it plowed open all winter? Obviously their are working ranches in the area so image they would have too.
Hey what are the Holidays for if not indulgences? We are getting ready to put more in the oven today; running low on bourbon though now.
From Sonoma County .....HAPPY NEW YEAR MARK & BOBBIE

  4. Happy New Year! We're winding up our month in Leeds (St. George). Spent some time checking out boondocking spots in Virgin. Also explored Kolob Terrace Rd up to just below Wildcat..."closed in winter". Absolutely beautiful up there, as you well know. Especially in winter (road was plowed). We've also visited inside the Park a couple times using our geezer pass. So spectacular in winter. Working on a new song...sung to Rock of Ages.

"Lots of Asians in the Park,
Made us what til almost dark.
In the restaurants, and in the bars,
    Rangers temporarily closed the Canyon,
    Too many cars..."

That's it so far. No racism intended. Just lots of Asian friends in one spot, at the same time.

  11. Looks kind of cold, but I think I would trade this nasty rain in Phoenix for that clear mountain sky. Happy 2017!
