Spamming You With More Primis-less, Uninspiring Postcards, and, A Bonus Pack Mini-Rant!!!

Some people look down long noses at blogs like the BCB as being uninspiring and/or intellectually trivial. It use to get under my skin to the point that I'd rail against such people in comments boxes, trying to explain the inexplicable, only to be told that I was "missing the point" of the post. I guess I'm just too dumb. I don't get why some find it necessary to criticize lesser Blogs. Why does it bother them that people are different?  Honestly, I can't see the harm in showing the world one of my chosen art forms, one that allows readers a glimpse of what it's like to hike, bike, photograph, live, or simple RV through glossy magazine-like places, most of which are off the beaten path. If that makes me simple, so be it. If photos and trail experience descriptions of some of the best hiking and biking opportunities in the Four Corner states (and occasionally beyond) bothers them then they shouldn't look in on the BCB, because that, along with a few stories, is what will be found. And another thing...why would Google Ads and/or "friends and followers" threaten or bother them? Does it somehow cheapen or lower the value of the content to try and make a living on the road? I have found that criticism is often the tool of choice for the insecure. So go ahead and blast away at different RV Lifestyles. Hell, why stop there...

Bobbie had an Art's Council meeting in Ridgway on Friday so I dropped her off and killed a couple of hours looking for some Autumnal Eye-candy Postcard shots up around Dallas Divide and Last Dollar Road to Telluride.

With Goldie pretty much under the weather and cold. I wasn't especially fond of working inside and tracking mud...a good excuse, eh?

So we hit the road north to Ridgway under blueing skies and along a red rocked byway.

I liked this photo of an old International pickup truck so much it went straight to the header :))

Outside Ridgway the climb begins...up to Dallas Divide.

This was the reward for getting out of my easy chair...Love those San Juan Mountain backdrops.

Tho muddy, I hit Last Dollar Road...and wound my way into a winter wonderland.

Last fall Marathon Man Leonard and I mountain biked from Ridgeway,up Dallas, up Last Dollar...all the way to Telluride (well, almost...we tuckered out just short of town and caught a lift). It's a great ride...not too steep, not too rough, and lots of Aspen to ogle.

There are so many more Postcards...this was just a teaser. Today we will be off to hike a well-aspened Cutler Creek Trail...just a few miles north of Lovely Ouray. Wednesday is supposed to be Departure Day around here. Lord willing we will head for the Moab area for a time. The forecast is for temps in the low 80's! Yikes, that's going to feel hot to a couple of Ouranians. :)

  1. I don't get it.... I never will. If people are unhappy with their lives the only response I would have for them is do something to make them happy in their OWN life. You have paid the price to enjoy every bit of enjoyment in your own lives... Don't bother with looking the suckers in the eye... check them out from your rear view mirror!!

  3. So true, and I don't get it either. We tell it like it is, according to our own lifestyles and experiences, and we record it for posterity, or prosperity...matters not! Beautiful postcards by the way..

  5. Love your postcards and your blog descriptions. I will never understand why people have to trash other peoples work. I guess they are so unhappy in their own lives that they have to try and make you miserable as well. Just ignore them and keep on doing what your doing.

  6. I don't get it either. If they don't like your blog then don't read it. To put on their blog, criticizing about what you put on YOUR blog is a little childish. If you don't want to read about hiking, biking, post card pictures or what ever then don't read it. We are all different and have our own path and journey. It's a very close minded way to go through life.

I for one really enjoy your blog, it gives me great ideas of places I want to one day visit. The colors are so amazing in your photos above. I am in no way a hiker or biker, but I do enjoy reading about those topics and how it brought joy to your life.

So keep on doing your own thing! : )

Don't let the haters stop you from doing what YOU love!

  7. Whatever makes you happy, whatever makes me happy, obviously something's not making the "haters" happy and that's their problem. What odds, as the Newfies like to say. Gorgeous shots of fall color surrounded by snow, that's something we don't get here in the Midwest! I'm hitting the highway with a friend to head a few hours north on Tuesday in search of some photographable fall color and some murals as a bonus. Enjoy your week!

  8. I am a Florida cracker (honest cracker since 1780), with a New England heart living in the Dakotas....yeh right what the hell is a florid cracker doing in the freakin cold Dakotas...long story short, when I could only find one native Floridian amongst all my friends and acquaintances, it was time to give it up to the implants. Your pictures thrill me, I have miss the colors back east, I am an ocean girl in my heart, but I love the mountains. Don't pay any attention at all to the haters, there are lots, like me, who silently stand in the wings and enjoy your blog immensely.Thank you.

  9. Hi there, I am a Florida cracker with a New England heart living in the Dakotas. I am an ocean girl by nature but I love the mountains. Sometimes I forget how much I miss the colors back east. Your pictures are a relief and a haven. Ignore the haters, they are small minded and art handicapped. Yeah, your stuff is art. As long as you do what you love tell other idiots who don't understand to move their collective arses to the back of the bus. Cause that's where bigotry and ignorance belong. Love your stuff, there are a lot of us silent observers out there who are reluctant to speak out, but trust me, we are here. Oh and off the subject, can I use your photos on my computer desktop, they look awesome in hd?

  10. Someone we both know just likes being a burr under the saddle - wants to see how much mayhem he can cause when the horse starts bucking. Just throw him a nice bag of molasses oats and carry on as you wish. Beautiful photos - really evocative - remind me of my days over there.

  11. First I want to say I love your blog and look forward to all your updates. I also love the Rockies and their mountain peaks. I enjoy reading about the places you've been and I especially enjoy all your snow hikes and scenes. Old cabins, mines and rusty stuff make them all the more interesting.

It's your blog. I choose to read it and enjoy it since I can't live it right now.

Thank you for sharing your world with us.

    Regards,
    Tom

  12. I was at the Apple Festival in Ithaca yesterday. In the Crafts row, there was a woman with a crowded booth selling postcards that were no where NEAR as beautiful as seen here on the BCB!!

G-G-Goldie looks c-c-c-cold! I am very excited about the BC Couples impending departure day! Send us lots of postcards, please!

  13. The snow looks great on the mountains and the trees, not so much on the RV. I am definitely "different" than most people I grew up with and lived around. Fortunately, I never let it bother me what they thought or said. My husband often said that I live in "Teri World". I like Teri World, it suits me fine.

  14. Got yourself some mighty fine photos there again Mark. Yes, too bad there always has to be the usual twisted Egos out there constantly finding fault in others to build themselves up. Jealousy & envy coming from an insecure mind is often the culprit behind those personal critisizms...............

  16. How in H$&% could anyone find a thing to complain about on your blog? I, for one, that loves to travel the West, and luckily stumble upon one view comparable to those you post every day or so, am in awe each time I click on your site. The combination of your locations, your writing skills, your love of the outdoors, and your artistic ability make your blog one of my favorites. You and Bobbie should be very proud.

  17. I just sit here looking at your photos with the biggest grin. You do such an amazing job capturing the beauty in the area. I love those fall colors. I can almost touch them:)

Poor Goldie! She most definitely should not have that snow blanketing her. She is ready to head to warmer climates.

  18. Hi Mark, have been reading your blog for too long without responding. My partner & I live in Sonoma Co, Calif and since 1985 we have never missed "the Aspen change" in the San Juans. We are both retired professionals and have traveled widely but the area bounded by the Million Dollar Hwy in SW Colorado is our favorite Paradise on Earth. Up until now we have never like to shout to loudly about this fact as we have experienced all to well the over commercialization when a place gets to popular with the masses, i e Moab, Eastern Sierras, et al. This fall we are staying at home as our golden retriever has cancer and is unable to travel. So our guilty conscience would not permit us to view your blog and see the most beautiful display that Nature puts on in our world thanks to your very professional photography. You should consider writing a book on your life on the road, with pictures.

  26. Those are some gloriously beautiful photos! Frame worthy.

Yeah, I don't get the folks that want to criticize others choices...can't we all just live and let live? There's plenty of options for everyone to live the life that makes sense to them!

Still in the 80's in Moab? Criminy! We're tossing around the idea of hitting that area early next spring...
