Serpentine is slippery, and when squeezed up by pressure acts like a watermelon seed. (I stole this from one of my favorite geology books). These kinds of rocks show up often in volcanic country that has a lot of fault activity, that was once part of ancient seas. Bet Gaelyn could explain this better then me and know for sure what the rock might be.
